Nursing Department is a four-year undergraduate program within the Faculty of Health Sciences of Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University. The Department of Nursing started education as a Nursing Associate Degree Program in the 1992-1993 academic year. In accordance with the decision of the Council of Ministers (Official Gazette: 2.11.1996 / 22805) and the protocol signed between the Ministry of Health and YÖK, the admission of students to the nursing associate degree programs in vocational schools of health services was discontinued. With this legislation, Abant İzzet Baysal University Nursing Department started its undergraduate education with 32 students in the 1997-1998 academic year, and the number of students continues to increase in each academic year. In the 2016–2017 academic year, we expanded our curriculum to include an optional preparatory class.

DEGREE EARNED

Individuals with a bachelor's degree who successfully complete the program are given the title of "nurse".

ADMISSION AND REGISTRATION CONDITIONS

Candidates who get sufficient base points from the exam conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) are entitled to enroll in the Nursing Department.

RULES ON RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (FORMAL, IN-FORMAL, NON-FORMAL)

The courses that the students who come with vertical and horizontal transfer have taken from their previous programs and are successful are accepted after evaluating their suitability for the program. If the boards (department and administrative) approve, the students can continue their education starting from the appropriate class.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS AND RULES

After successfully completing the compulsory and elective courses in the current program, one graduates with a weighted grade point average of at least 2.0 out of 4.00 and a total of 240 ECTS.

PROGRAM PROFILE

The aim of the nursing program is to train nurses who provide preventive, curative, and rehabilitative health services to healthy/sick individuals, families, and communities at the national and international levels; who take on the roles of educator, practitioner, manager, researcher; open to development, have good communication skills, critical thinking, problem determination, and solving skills, and have the ability to use scientific technology.

EMPLOYMENT PROFILES OF GRADUATES (WITH EXAMPLES)

Graduates of this program work as nurses in public and private hospitals, primary health care institutions, schools and workplaces. At the same time, they work as teachers in health vocational high schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education and as lecturers in related departments at universities.

TRANSITION TO POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMS

Candidates who have completed their undergraduate education are accepted to graduate programs according to the results of the Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) and foreign language exam, and the (base) grade point average determined by the university boards.

The method of assessment and evaluation applied for each lesson is defined in detail in the "Course Teaching Plan".

DEPARTMENT FACILITIES

The Department of Nursing is within the Faculty of Health Sciences. There are 4 classrooms, 5 lecture halls, 4 nursing practice laboratories and a computer laboratory in our department. In addition to these, there are 2 meeting rooms, 1 graduate class, 1 hobby room, 1 cafeteria, 2 rest rooms, 4 student locker rooms, 2 material storerooms. There are 29 study rooms in total belonging to our academic and administrative staff.
